All surgeries are by appointment only. Please make an appointment by visiting our Consulting Room or call the surgery on 01452 522 902. Lines are closed between 13:00 -14:00.

In the last few years, Kingsholm Surgery has seen an increase demand for appointments. In order to deal with this we have increased the number of doctors and the number of appointments.

However we are still struggling to keep up with demand for appointments. We have adjusted our appointment system so we have a mixture of routine appointments and urgent (available on the day) appointments so we can try and meet demand in a timely and safe manner. You can help us by trying to make sure that you book the right sort of appointment.

Routine Appointments

These appointments are available from two days to three months in advance. These can be used for:

  • New problems that are not urgent
  • Reviews of ongoing medical problems
  • Problems that have been present for longer than 2 weeks
  • Medication reviews
  • Chronic disease reviews
  • Blood pressure checking, contraception, HRT, sick notes etc.

These appointments last for 10 minutes. If the doctor has asked you to come back for a review please book this appointment before leaving the surgery. We release a number of appointments on the day for urgent cases. Please understand that if you contact the surgery too late in the day, it will be difficult to offer you an appointment that same day. You can express a preference to see a particular doctor when booking a routine appointment.

Urgent Appointments

Every day we hold back some appointments that are only bookable on the day. Morning appointments are released at 08:30 and afternoon appointments at 14:00. These are for people who feel so unwell that they need to be seen the same day. The appointments last for 10 minutes.

If you feel so unwell that you book one of these appointments it is our expectation that you will be able to come at the time given, i.e. that you will leave work or school (in the case of children). These appointments are not suitable for the problems listed under routine appointments.

Emergency Appointments

If all the routine and urgent appointments have gone and you have a problem that cannot wait until the next surgery then you may be offered an emergency appointment. These are only 5 minutes long.

For this reason we will only deal with the emergency problem and no other. We will not give out repeat prescriptions. These appointments are shared out equally between the doctors so you will not be able to choose which doctor you see. If you book an emergency appointment for a routine problem then you will be asked to book a more appropriate appointment.

Telephone Appointments

Sometimes if you have a problem that can be dealt over the telephone, you will be booked a telephone appointment. These are usually dealt with at the end of surgery between 11:45 and 15:00 or after 18:00.

It is possible that the doctor may be able to phone before this time, so it is important that you answer your phone at any time after a telephone appointment has been booked. If the doctor has tried to phone you and got no reply then they will not phone again.

Out of Hours

This service is available from 18:30 through to 08:00, 7 days a week. The service also covers Bank Holidays.

Weekday evening and weekend appointments are offered every day at GHAC (08:00 – 20:00). These appointments can be booked through our surgery (when we are open) or directly with GHAC.

Cancel appointments

Please let us know if you need to cancel an appointment either online or by calling us on 01452 522 902.
